Antique Rocking Horses
Brassington and Cooke rocking horse.
Midnight is a professionally restored rocking horse by Brassington and Cooke, circa 1915
Prior to restoration, this horse was painted black, with white socks, a pattern that has been retained in his restoration. He also has pommel holes, possibly indicative of the earlier date we have attributed to this rocking horse.
The hooves are not rebatted onto the side rails, a relatively unusual practice. The brackets are a pair of steel clamps on each swing iron.
The replacement tack has been sympathetic to the original pattern for this maker, with a black natural horse hair mane and tail to match his colour scheme.
The stand is has been re-furbished and is in full working order.
Body Length 22 inches
Length 42 inches
Brassington and Cooke were significant toy makers based in Manchester between 1875 and 1937. Like many such enterprises they made a wide range of toys and perambulators, including bicycles.
