Antique Rocking Horses

Bow rocking horse by Gemla of Sweden circa 1910

Alma is a Gemla rocking horse dating to circa 1910, in largely original condition. The front left leg is raised, with the rear right leg trailing, giving the impression of a horse cantering. The ears are leather, eyes glass. Alma has original leather tack, including a fixed bridle, leather saddle on a wooden former with stirrups on adjustable leather straps. The original paintwork is as a chestnut with black hooves. The bow rocker is painted a dark green.
As can be expected for an item of this age and originality, there is some condition, with parts of the paintwork absent and indeed parts of the tack either fragile or missing. Restoration has to date been limited to conservation only, as the value in this rare rocking horse lies very much in it's originality.
