If you like “condition” on an antique, you’ll love this one. Ussher is an Ayres rocking horse, dating to approximately 1900-14. A strong indicator of this provenance are the two side saddle pommel holes either side of the saddle. Middle class families who could afford such rocking horses at the time insisted their daughters rode “properly” from an early age. This is a feature that all but disappeared after the Great War. Unfortunately the original pommels with this highly original horse have been lost.
Paintwork is all original, the sealing lacquer coat tends to darken with age, wear and tear is light considering we are looking at an age of about 120 years here. This horse is so original it is better to list the replacement parts.
